Case study - Fibre Optic Cable - Installation, burial & shore landings

In 2015 Irish Sea Contractors were awarded a contract by TE Subcom to complete the pre-laid shore end installation works on AEConnect transatlantic fibre optic cable in Killala Bay,Co Mayo.

ISC chartered the mv "Granuaile" for cable laying operations with Killybegs Port utilised for mob/demob of "cable ship".

Cable was floated ashore from Granuaile & laid on the seabed to a distance of 4kms. An ROV was used to survey the cable on the seabed as laid. ISC crew using a sub sea cable trenching machine buried the cable in the seabed to a depth of 1m to 1.5m. Cable was shelled & buried in the rocky ground for a distance of 100m from beach manhole.

A 200m long combination wire was laid on the seabed offshore for the Transatlantic Cable Ship to pick up cable & commence laying to America.

Beach & shore site were completely re-instated to pre-contract condition.
